A fresh start in Freshford was the solution to a two-year search for a home by retired newly-weds
When former city-dweller Nancy Pitt left the Bristol office of the COI, the Government’s former marketing and communications agency, to marry her husband Tony who enjoyed country living in the village of Tatworth near Chard, they decided to search for a new home which offered the best of both worlds.
Having scoured the region, they discovered Freshford Fields, a brand new development of just six bespoke country houses built by Cotswold Homes. Located in a rural hillside hamlet on the edge of the village of Freshford in the Avon Valley, it is only about 20 minutes by car from Bath.
“Construction of our home was at an early stage when we visited and decided to buy, so it was a bit of a leap of faith,” explains Nancy. She says they made the right decision when they invested £643,000 in Stone House, a four-bedroom detached home built in a style combining the character and spaciousness of an earlier age with modern practicalities and efficiencies.
Nancy and Tony, who are both in their sixties and enjoy entertaining, were particularly attracted by the spaciousness of the kitchen/dining room as well as the lounge which has French windows opening on to a walled garden. In addition to a family bathroom, two of the bedrooms have ensuites. Among other features are a study and a double garage.
“We have inspected countless properties in the past two years but none of them matched the quality of the specification, fittings and finishes we have at Stone House,” added Nancy.
“In addition to guiding us through the buying process, they helped us select aspects of our kitchen, tiling, flooring and other finishes. Cotswold Homes turned a potentially stressful exercise into an exciting and enjoyable experience.’
She added: ‘Moving in was easy and the friendly neighbours are great, too. Within days of our arrival they visited to welcome us, give us local produce and invite us to a party!’
The Pitts’ purchase means that all but one of the new homes at Freshford Fields have now been snapped up.
The price of the remaining five-bedroom property, named Fair Oaks, is £1.1 million which includes a contemporary Shaker kitchen with granite worktops, SMEG appliances and Porcelanosa floor tiles. The ground floor has under-floor heating and a wood-burning stove.
