Signature at Camberley has proudly hosted an event to celebrate the launch of their resident Robert Murphy’s inspiring new book

Robert was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in January 2018 and moved into Signature at Camberley a year later.

Incredibly he defied his initial 18-month prognosis to see his daughter Sarah get married, twice overcome Covid-19 and welcome his grandson into the world.

Over the following three years, Robert wrote about his thoughts, dreams and reality while totally paralysed using eye-gaze technology.

He used a specialist and life-changing piece of equipment which converts minute movements of the eye into spoken words and allows him to communicate with others.

His writings are now a book entitled Reflections of a Life Well Lived and Rob is donating the proceeds to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Family, friends and guests who attended Rob’s book launch at Signature at Camberley listened to a selection of Robert’s poems read by fellow residents.

There was also a raffle, speeches and delicious refreshments.

Camberley General Manager Girlie Braga said: “It was an absolute privilege to host such a wonderful event and help to make Rob’s dream of publishing his book of poems a reality. He is truly an incredible person who continues to inspire us every single day.”

Abi Case, Signature’s Social Media and Marketing Executive, who was also present at the launch, which raised an incredible £1,055, added,  “It was wonderful to see so many people come to support the cause and enjoy themselves at the same time. The day was full of laughs, tears, love and laughter and I am sure everyone left feeling inspired by Rob’s story. Thank you, Rob.”

All proceeds of ‘Reflections Of a Life Well Lived’ go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
