Care-home innovator KYN is to open a new home in June next to the prestigious Hurlingham Club in West London

KYN Hurlingham will provide a pioneering approach to care which prioritises the individual in a safe environment and offers them as much independence as they wish.

According to the KYN philosophy, the team at KYN Hurlingham will learn as much as possible about residents’ past, present and future preferences before they move in.

Emphasis is placed on giving residents full autonomy, in a safe and beautiful environment, with no set schedule to adhere to, and a culture that promotes individual pursuits alongside plenty of opportunities to socialise, building both a sense of belonging and being at home.

A dedicated life-enrichment team will provide a variety of activities such as calligraphy, bridge, gardening and wine tasting, and a concierge will be on hand as well as chauffeured transport.

Each resident will be given the highest personal care according to their level of need, with dedicated nurses and carers, an in-house physiotherapist and a weekly GP visit.

KYN Hurlingham will also be the first care home to offer regular specialist medical cover via consultant geriatrician Dr Shane Roche.

KYN has spent two years restoring the Grade II building which dates from 1855 in the heart of Fulham.

Refined interiors of casual elegance have been created by leading British designer Nina Campbell with art selected by renowned curator Adam Ellis.

There will be a choice of rooms and suites, a dining room and bar, library, screening room, several cosy sitting rooms and private dining spaces, and The KYTH Spa providing massages, hair and nail treatments.

The grounds have also received a comprehensive restoration, with award-winning gardener Randle Siddeley designing a walled garden and outdoor roof terraces.

The seasonal planting and layout of the gardens is devised to promote mood, cognition, and mental and physical wellbeing, and to provide a wonderful environment for families to meet with their loved ones.

On the upper floor, tranquil west and south facing terraces overlook either Hurlingham Park or The Parsons Green Sports & Social Club and provide ample opportunity for residents to enjoy the benefits of natural daylight all year round.

Beyond the physical environment at KYN Hurlingham, residents’ food and nutrition has received the same level of detailed planning and care.

Working alongside expert nutritionist Eva Humphries, award winning chef Tristan Welch has designed daily changing menus with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients and satisfying flavours tailored to residents’ palates and nutritional needs.

Menus and service are delivered to five-star hotel standards by a dedicated hospitality team, whether a resident is eating in the privacy of their own room at whatever time they choose or settling down for an intimate lunch or dinner with family and friends.

Commissioning Home Manager Jordan Pereira commented: “The KYN philosophy for care is delivered by having the highest industry ratio of team members to residents, and by working with outstanding people.  We recruit the best against a defined set of KYN values, we support them with the best training, and we collaborate with the best leaders in their field.”

Pereira has more than a decade of experience working in the care sector and has a Master of Science in Management and Leadership in Health and Social Care at University of Cumbria; PgCert in Diabetes at Ulster University; and a Bachelor of Science in Adult Nursing (RGN) at Polytechnic of Leiria (Portugal).

Caroline Naidoo, Managing Director of KYN added: “KYN has broken away from the traditional care home model, creating a genuinely uplifting and joyful place to call home.

“We provide a pioneering approach to care built on our values of holistic wellbeing, supported by highly experienced nurses and carers, AI innovation, modern nutrition and world class hospitality.  In everything that we do, we place a high value on the autonomy of our residents and encourage the nurturing and development of meaningful relationships, in and outside of the home.

“The vision for KYN came together because so many of our team were dissatisfied with their personal experience when looking for care home options for our families.  Our mission is to create the best care home available where we would want our own parents – our KYN – to live.”

A qualified nurse, Caroline Naidoo joined KYN in 2019 and brings 30 years’ experience in the care industry, including as Divisional Director South of England at Barchester Healthcare, Chief Operating Officer at Priory Group and Operations Director at Four Seasons Health Care.

KYN Hurlingham is located at 28 Daisy Lane, London, SW6 3DD.
