McCarthy & Stone has partnered with the supermarket chain Morrisons to offer homeowners a new order-by-phone delivery service

There’s no doubt that just popping to the shops for food and essentials is difficult in a pandemic — especially if you are in a vulnerable category.

And while some people choose to do their shopping online, it’s not the answer for those who struggle with technology.

McCarthy & Stone puts a lot of thought into ensuring that its developments are great places to live in retirement and that includes finding solutions to any challenges their homeowners have.

That’s why it has chosen to partner with Morrisons, working with them to tailor Morrisons’ easy-to-use telephone ordering service so that it suits the people living in its retirement developments.

The service offers homeowners free next-day delivery and even a free bunch of flowers with their first order.

Benefiting homeowners

The doorstep delivery service is available to all of McCarthy & Stone’s 20,000 plus homeowners.

Customers simply place their order over the phone and their groceries are delivered the next day.

What homeowners and staff think

“Morrisons doorstep delivery is such a great service. I am thrilled and can’t thank them enough … A big thank you to Claire and Tracy who delivered the shopping, they were absolute stars and so helpful. I’m sure we will see their friendly faces again,” says Mrs Elsie Burrell of Oaktree Court, Tenterden.

“The Morrisons doorstep delivery service allows our homeowners to independently get the groceries they need in a simple, convenient way,” added David Searle, Managing Director of Services, McCarthy & Stone.

Keeping safe and supported

McCarthy & Stone communities have pulled together during lockdown to keep everyone as safe and happy as possible — and they’re proud to say it’s paid off.

In this difficult year, McCarthy & Stone has taken a lot of practical steps to help its retirement communities to feel more connected, more independent, safer and happier.

As well as the Morrison’s partnership, it will be launching a new invitation-only online community just for people living in McCarthy & Stone apartments, allowing homeowners to meet neighbours virtually, receive news and current affairs updates, share information and chat.

And after the success of McCarthy & Stone’s Buddy scheme, there are plans to introduce a new volunteer app so that homeowners, employees and family members can find out about volunteering opportunities across the developments.

Acts of kindness

McCarthy & Stone’s communities have not just survived, they have thrived during this global pandemic, with ‘balcony banter’ and gardens full of laughter. There’s a lot to be thankful for.
