The Oren by Elysian Residences turns traditional retirement living on its head
If you ever wonder in your wildest dreams where you might live through your advancing years, it probably doesn’t include five-star hotel facilities, with members’ club-style service or an on-call chef.
Elysian Residences are challenging our traditional perception of later living and tackling the lack of choice in the UK.
Less than one per cent of our older population lives in the kind of purpose-built communities you find in parts of the USA’s West Coast, where the figure is 30 per cent.
“Life doesn’t slow down as we enter our platinum years,” says Gavin Stein, Elysian’s founder. “It should flourish and thrive as we’re released from the routine of juggling jobs and the demands of family in our fifties and sixties.”
The Oren on West Heath Road in London’s leafy Hampstead is one of four new UK developments from Elysian Residences. And none of them has anything to do with slowing down and everything to do with luxury, hospitality, and wellness.
The Oren has 46 select apartments set in a state-of-the-art building designed by RIBA Stirling prize-winning architects Stanton Williams, and gardens imagined by Chelsea Garden medallists Bradley-Hole Schoenaich Landscape.
When you can enjoy a wish list of services that includes a concierge, drawing room with the feel of a five-star hotel, valet parking, an Ottolenghi-style restaurant, bar, library, lounge, cinema, gym, spa and pool, you won’t want to leave.
But if you do fancy heading out, a chauffeur service puts Hampstead village, the theatre, and the many excellent local restaurants within easy reach.
The Oren’s focus is on luxury and service and is underpinned by a totally discreet approach to care.
For something that’s so unique and personal to you, it’s no surprise to learn that this philosophy extends into the very fabric of the building.
You won’t find any walking aids in the restaurant – they’re stowed away in purpose-built storage on arrival. Neither will you find grab bars on bathroom walls.
Instead, everything can be added where and when you need it, and that includes nurses and care assistants when you need them. Consultation rooms at the spa mean that medical professionals can come to you, and with a staff-to-apartment ratio that’s close to 1:1, this vision of the good life is closer than you think.
The Oren’s spacious two-and-three-bedroom apartments will be located in four separate blocks over five floors, and with only two or three homes per floor you won’t feel like you’re living in a large development.
All apartments come with private terraces or balconies and range from 916–1,430 sq ft for a two- bedroom and 1,568–1,824 sq ft for a three-bedroom. And if you’re fortunate enough to live in one of the four penthouses, you can enjoy 1,759–2,400 sq ft of living space with wraparound terraces offering superb views of a beautiful woodland and beyond to Golders Hill Park and Hampstead.
