Former military man Michael Pope was one of the first to move into Churchill Living’s Invicta Lodge in Broadstairs, Kent where he is enjoying the ‘lock up and leave’ lifestyle
“I love going on cruise ships and I’ve just returned from a lovely trip with my son to Hamburg and Rotterdam,” enthuses Michael, 89.
“It was my third cruise and I’m already looking forward to the next one.”
“I previously lived in a three bed semi just 500 yards away from Invicta Lodge. My wife and I had been looking for an apartment for a while and when we saw this place being built it looked just right.”
Sadly Michael’s wife passed away before the development was completed, but he made the move anyway and is very glad he did.
“It’s the best thing I ever did, my apartment is just right and it’s nice to have a bit of company around me as well as safety and security.
“When I go away I can lock up and leave with peace of mind knowing everything is safe and secure whilst I’m gone.
“I have no more worries about maintenance or gardening, I can just relax and enjoy getting to know my new neighbours.”
Churchill’s Sales Executive Lorraine helped him navigate the process and let Michael take his time with no pressure.
“I used the Home Exchange service to smooth things along,” he explained.
“And I was one of the first to move in as soon as the new apartments were ready.”
Reflecting on his military career, Michael adds: “I was in the army for 22 years, but fortunately for me I was never a fighting soldier.
“I worked on the admin side of things and eventually became Chief Clerk of the Regiment in the Royal Armoured Corps.
“I enjoyed the camaraderie and in some ways life here is quite similar. We each have our own quarters and an Owners’ Lounge where we can get together and socialise. Life is a lot more relaxed here though!”
Talking about the facilities at Invicta Lodge, he adds: “My son has been to stay in the Guest Suite a couple of times, it’s very convenient for anyone who comes to visit.
“I’m hoping my son and his wife will join me on another cruise next year to celebrate my 90th birthday. It’s a nice milestone to look forward to, and I’m sure I’ll be able to celebrate with my new friends at Invicta Lodge too.”
Invicta Lodge is a collection of 51 one-and-two-bed apartments with integrated kitchens, landscaped gardens, and a Lodge Manager to provide a friendly face and assistance throughout the week.
Owners also benefit from a 24-hour call centre support system, a Guest Suite for family and friends to visit and a large Owners’ Lounge with a coffee bar.
