A special support service from McCarthy & Stone ensures retirees don’t miss out on extra income

Many of us approaching retirement or looking to downsize in the future will make the financial implications of such a life change a key priority.

And while assessing the levels of income we will need to lead a fulfilling retirement, we often forget to investigate the range of benefits to which we are fully entitled.

By doing so, we are saying goodbye to additional cash that could make all the difference to some of our everyday purchase decisions like whether to take a taxi to a hospital appointment or wait for a bus, to get our hair done, to eat out etc.

According to Age UK and CAB, retired people in the UK fail to claim over £5 billion a year to which they may be entitled.

At a time of life when financial security is very important, for many the sheer bureaucracy of application processes can be off putting, resulting in much-needed and entitled funds not being claimed.

This is one of the driving forces behind the McCarthy & Stone’s Entitlements Advice Service, which is available to all McCarthy & Stone property owners.

Set up to assist homeowners the Entitlements Advice Team is a free and confidential one-to-one service, where a team member arranges to discuss your financial situation with you, and alert you the important benefits you may be entitled that can supplement your income and pension.

The company’s Entitlements Advice Team service has worked with thousands of older homeowners to secure more than £10 million of funds which has helped make a real difference to their lives.

The areas covered by the team include assessing eligibility for valuable extra income, what particular benefits you could be entitled to, how to go about claiming them, as well as assistance with completing application forms.

If you are struggling with mobility or have a health problem for example, experts can investigate the feasibility of your entitlement to Attendance Allowances which are needs-based, rather than means tested.

Other entitlements include the Winter Fuel Allowance, which can be very useful as energy costs continue to escalate, while some individuals living on their own should be aware that they can receive a reduction in their Council Tax bills.

Other areas such as eligibility for Pension Credit, or potential help with Ground Rent charges, could help make a real difference for someone on a fixed retirement income.

The McCarthy & Stone Entitlements Advice Team is highly experienced in working alongside such trusted organisations such as Citizen’s Advice and Age UK,  to make sure homeowners receive the financial help to which they are fully entitled.

Retirement should be a time to relax and make the most of life. With additional income this can be made easier, and all retirees should not delay when it comes to finding out what they are entitled to.
