Some might say every day is special at a McCarthy & Stone retirement development but expect something a bit different when you turn 100

Mrs Joan Jackson and Mayor of Solihull Stuart Davis

Everyone loves a good party and Joan Jackson who celebrated her 100th birthday in August, celebrated in style with 60 friends in the stunning homeowners lounge at Ravenshaw Court in Solihull where she has lived for four years.

“I never thought for a moment that I would live to reach 100,” said Joan. “I remember a time when I thought being 40 was old!

“I look back on my life with fondness of wonderful holidays and travelling, and I am very proud of my family and how hard they have all worked.

“My favourite era was the Twenties and Thirties  when women dressed with such elegance and the men always looked smart with their collars and ties.”

Joan was one of the very first homeowners to move into Ravenshaw Court four years ago where she has enjoyed having the picturesque Warwickshire countryside on her doorstep.

I have made such a close group of friends here

“I have made such a close group of friends here,” she says. “I have a tremendous amount of company being a part of the many social events that take place here regularly.

“I couldn’t ask for a better birthday, being able to celebrate 100 fabulous years surrounded by my family and friends.”

Guests also included the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull, who shared afternoon tea, cake and fizz with Joan and her family at the Ravenshaw Court Retirement Living Plus development on Four Ashes Road in Bentley Heath.

Mayor Stuart Davis, said: “It was an honour and a privilege to be able to share the afternoon with Mrs Jackson, celebrating 100 remarkable years on this earth.

It was lovely to swap stories of the good old days, and more importantly, see Mrs Jackson’s entire family out in force to celebrate the special occasion.”

Jane Mayhew, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy & Stone West Midlands, added: “Mrs Jackson is a much-loved member of our Ravenshaw Court community.

“Everyone is so friendly and events like this really help us to demonstrate how warm and welcoming this development is – as well as highlighting the many opportunities the McCarthy & Stone team creates for companionship and socialising with like-minded retirees.”
